Preparation

While these preparation steps are not essential, they will help ensure a smoother upgrade process from Raspbian Jessie to Raspbain Stretch.

  1. Ensure all the latest updates and packages have been installed, using the following commands:
    sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y upgrade
  2. Reboot your Raspberry Pi, using the following command:
    sudo reboot
  3. Display the current Raspbain release information, using the following command:
    lsb_release -a

    This command will display the following:

    No LSB modules are available.
    Distributor ID: Raspbian
    Description:    Raspbian GNU/Linux 8.0 (jessie)
    Release:        8.0
    Codename:       jessie

    Your Raspberry Pi should report that it is currently running Raspbian GNU/Linux 8.0 (jessie).

You are now ready to begin the upgrade to Raspbian Stretch!
